Come, my friends,
'Tis not too late to seek a newer world. .
. . To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths
Of all the western stars, until I die.

August Fleet Awards
12-Sep-2017     Fleet News

Summer is now officially over for those of us north of the equator and school is back in session. August went out with a flurry of siming and a solar eclipse.

Me, I'm looking forward to fall and more reasons to stay indoors and write.

Congratulations to all the winners, and all the simmers, because as usual, it was hard to pick just one!

August 2017 Fleet Awards

Unit of Distinction
Task Force 23:
Gold: USS Winchester
Silver (tie): USS Hyperion & USS Endeavour & USS Aurora
Bronze (tie): USS Missouri & USS Pegasus & Starbase Vanguard
Area 51:
Gold: USS Musashi
Silver: USS Hera
Bronze: USS Redemption

Writer of the Month
Task Force 23 (tie):
Ranger: Arie, who plays T'kaarch. He is always willing and eager to jump into a JP. His character is written with a touch of humor that is endearing and fun to read. He is a great addition to the crew.
Winchester: Elicia Bowden (Dr. Furukawa) because of her unique style of writing, making you feel part of the post
Area 51:
Redemption: Major Kiesha Afton, CMO, I am nominating her for writer of the month due to her prolific posts this month and her help with writing off a character on the ship in a most enjoyable fashion.

Player of the Month
Task Force 23 (tie):
Pegasus: Mike Holiman. His variety and depth of writing ability always makes for interesting reading. His characters have depth and flaws as well, very important for characters to have if you want people to care. Most definitely not cookie cutter and his writing flows well. I've written with him a long time and hope to continue to do so. Currently one of his NPC's is doing an excellent job about being a heartless space pirate. I really dislike this character, well done!
Aurora: (nominated by 2XO): Amber Quinn, the XO, for keeping the sim going while the CO had some RL trouble. & Winchester: Lt. Teryl Miri for just being there when I needed her. (same player)
Area 51 (tie):
Hera: David Commander Mal Xustos. Excelled at setting up a side plot that not only filled in several questions about his character but also set up parts of the next mission as well as the entire next season. His exemplary leadership in these posts drew in the entire crew while on shore leave and while I was having medical issues.
Musashi: Ezra Helmer, my former Second Officer turned First Officer for not only filling Katy's shoes, but making them his own. He has been more than an XO, he's been my rock. He was key in getting Musashi off the ground with Katy and I, and with her gone, he's really been the best XO anyone could ask for.

Post of the Month
Task Force 23 (tie):
Calypso: "Broken and Scared" (http://uss-calypso.net/index.php/sim/viewpost/2096)
Pegasus: A lot going here, action, characters in danger, and an escape! A fun post that included much of the crew and was a lot of fun to write. Post of the Month: Cat and Mouse. http://pegasus.thetafleet.net/index.php ... t/210/view
Area 51:
"Charting the Stars" (http://musashi.rpg-hosting.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/11) Perhaps one of the more interesting submissions for Post of the Month because this post is between only two characters, but more than than it is a post between two NPC characters. The writers involved were myself (Cornet Jakku) and Ezra Helmer (Ensign Arturo Marquez). I picked this one because as a CO I stand strongly behind my belief that with Musashi, all characters should matter. I want to give all writers and all characters from the youngest crewmen to the Captain herself the ability to shine and be developed. I felt this was executed well in this post between a civilian observer and a young junior navigator. <[p>

TGCO Award of Merit
23-A: No Award
23-B: USS Ranger
23-C: USS Winchester
51-A: USS Musashi
51-B: USS Zeus
51-C: USS Ascendant
