"The dream of yesterday is the hope of today and the reality of tomorrow." -- Robert Goddard

June 2017 Fleet Awards
15-Jul-2017     Fleet News

Computer issues delayed the awards by several days. For this we apologize. In addition, it was difficult to decide between a number of very good nominations. Thus the number of ties in Task Force 23. Good job, everyone!

June 2017 Fleet Awards
Task Force 23:
Gold: USS Yamato
Silver (tie): Starbase Vanguard & USS Calypso
Bronze (tie): USS Hera & USS Jerusalem
Admiral's Honor: USS Erebus
Area 51:
Gold: USS Galileo
Silver: SS Boreas
Bronze: USS Tokyo

Writer of the Month:
Task Force 23 (tie):
Vanguard: Colonel Horatio Drake played by Jamie. The XO said: I have decided to complete the Monthly Report myself this month so we can recognize Jamie for how in depth and how good his posts are as Horatio Drake. This month he is running a mission to explore the USS Bretagne, whilst contending with a betrayal that happened at the previous mission with his XO and Drake's own hate for Starfleet. Jamie consistently shows Drake's state of mind in all his posts and ensures all posts are as highly detailed as possible.
Pegasus: Kat is my choice for writer of the month. Even though the Pegasus is far away and in trouble and the sim is slow it didn't stop Kat from doing some writing. She began a series for her character that shows how she got to this point in her career. Kat has a great writing style and l enjoy reading her work. She is a great asset to the Pegasus sim. Thank you Kat for joining us!
Area 51:
Boreas: Dennis who portrays Dimitri, he has a lively character that most of us really enjoy interacting with and has a unique ‘fatefully’ way of writing him.

Player of the Month
Task Force 23 (tie):
Calypso: This month it's been a team effort. There's been great participation by the medical staff, engineering, science, intel, security, ops, and command. All have jumped into the mission with gusto and are putting together some really great posts. The sim would not be as good, or as much fun, without the players.
Endeavour & Hyperion: Ally. Ally helped both XOs keep the sims going while the CO was on LOA. She is always willing to jump in and help out, whether it is in mission development or creating a little chaos.
Area 51:
Galileo: Kat (Varro). The small entourage of characters played by Kat is always a joy to read. Each of the characters is played with the same attention to detail as the main one, and it's been very cool to see how their stories are becoming interconnected aboard the sim. Kat's obviously put a lot of thought into the IC element and it really shows. An excellent month for her and I hope to read more in July! -Jay

Post of the Month
Task Force 23:
There are no specific criteria for Post of the Month. Basically, it's whichever post or posts strike our fancy for any given month. This month, both posts have some fun character development and good storytelling. And, since we couldn't decide between the two, it is a tie.
Calypso: "We Plants are Happy Plants (part 1)" (http://uss-calypso.net/index.php/sim/viewpost/2060)
Yamato: Tying up loose ends. (http://yamato.rpgs-r.us/index.php/sim/viewpost/127)
Area 51 (tie):
Galileo: Wenches (Parts 1-4) https://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/4223
Tokyo: Mirror Mirror : http://tokyo.rpgs-r.us/index.php/sim/viewpost/122

TGCO Award of Merit
Task Force 23:
23-A: USS Calypso
23-B: USS Aurora
23-C: USS Hera
Area 51:
51-A: No Award
51-B: USS Victorious
51-C: SS Boreas

Quarterly Fleet Awards - Second Quarter

Sim of the Quarter
Task Force 23: USS Yamato
The Yamato has seen increased activity this quarter. Much is due to the CO and XO and their NPCs as the story involved the kidnapping of the Captain by a rogue Romulan Commander. Everyone on the ship has been involved and the story has been good.
Area 51: USS Galileo
There is no question that the Galileo crew work well together, and build some very interesting stories. A number of the players on the sim have interesting side stories that give their characters depth and vitality. The missions are complex and often multi-part, with every player having a part to play. It's a fine sim and a fine crew.

CO of the Quarter:
Task Force 23: Horatio Drake, Starbase Vanguard
This quarter, Starbase Vanguard has been at the top of its game. Much of this is due to its Commanding Officer. Not only is there a lot of mission-related posting going on, there is also a thriving civilian sector on the Starbase. There are some great writers and great posts on the sim as well.
Area 51: Azura Ashcart, USS Redemption
There are many things that make a good CO. Ashcart is a caring, nurturing commander who is always willing to help a new player acclimatize to Nova, or to simming in general. As at TGCO he will jump onto a sim to help out a member of his Task Group and will give out-of-character help as needed. He is also good to the players on his sim by encouraging and supporting them as both writers and players. For these, and many other reasons, he deserves to be recognized for his behind-the-scenes work.

XO of the Quarter:
Task Force 23: Hans Munich
A good CO needs a good right hand. Munich's player spends more time playing NPCs in support roles to help other players than he does his XO character. He is a good sounding board and support not only to the CO but to the crew as a whole.
Area 51: Alora Tau'Ri, USS Tokyo
Sometimes, it is an XO's job to tell the CO that she is crossing a line with her crew. Tau'Ri has had several opportunities to have a heart-to-heart with her new Commanding Officer. This is all done in character and in good humor. And the CO and XO work together out of character to make sure that it helps develop both character's personalities and their working relationship. The XO has also been tasked with bringing order to a ship full of misfits. Whether she can actually achieve that goal or not is up for debate, but it does make the posts more interesting.

Writer of the Quarter:
Task Force 23: Voz
Voz, USS Yamato. There is no question that a majority of the sim's success this quarter is due to Voz' writing as both his main character, and the Romulan Sub Commander who helped liberate the Captain. When Voz writers, he is very good.
Area 51:
The Boreas came into TF in early May, so it is eligible for this award. Dennis, SS Boreas. Dimitri Koslev is the old and lovable Chief Engineer aboard the merchant ship. He is always there to write with, and has a complex and believable character. He is a joy both to read and to write with.

Player of the Quarter:
Task Force 23:
Mira Jayde, USS Hyperion. Jayde is actively involved in posts on the sim and encourages other players to write as well. The character is well-developed and tries to find a balance between her past and present, her Vulcan heritage, and her Bajoran upbringing.
Area 51:
Kat, USS Galileo. Sorel Varro is a complex character, as are Kat's other characters. Each has a distinct personality. They interact well with each other and with the other characters on the ship. Kat is always there to write with other players, or to involve all her characters in a mission. She is one of the driving forces on the Galileo. Her posts are always fun to read.
